A native of Bourbonnais and graduate of the University of Illinois, Dave launched his journalism career during his junior year of college when he began covering sports for the Champaign News-Gazette. Upon earning his bachelor’s degree in print journalism, he took a job as a sports writer for The Daily Times in Ottawa, Ill., where he eventually became features editor, and in 2002 launched his popular general-interest newspaper column, the Wisch List.
In July 2005, after winning 18 national, regional and statewide awards for the Daily Times, including six first places for columns, features, sports and news, and publishing his first book, “Northern IlliNOISE: Tales of a Territory,” a collection of his columns, Dave took a job with the Chicago Tribune. At the Trib, he worked as a Metro reporter covering the city and suburbs and also transformed the Wisch List into what was at the time only the third-ever blog for chicagotribune.com.
In July 2007, Dave left the Tribune and now works full-time as an advertising copywriter while living in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. His Chicago-centric Wisch List column (which appears at this site) now runs weekly for The Daily Journal (Kankakee) and The Times (Ottawa) newspapers. In 2010, Dave began writing a regular sports blog for CBSChicago.com and 670TheScore.com. He also is a contributing writer for ChicagoSide, the co-founder of OddChicagoPhotos.com and a regular guest on sports talk radio shows in Champaign, Decatur, Quincy and other stations throughout Illinois.
